Today is National Watermelon Day and for some reason summertime always gives me a craving for watermelon. No other time during the calendar year does the sound of this fruit appeal, but June hits and I’m ready to consume it in large quantities. It’s a crowd pleaser for adults and kids alike which makes life so much easier. In my quest to inform my loyal readers, I went on a bit of quest to find all relevant watermelon info.
Like for instance, bet you didn’t know there is a Watermelon Queen 2015. Her name is Emily Brown, no relation, and she is reigning over all watermelons as we speak! She also has a beautiful crown which makes it completely legitimate. Also, the largest watermelon on record weighed in at 350 lb. back in 2013 from a farmer named Christopher Kent. Watermelons are also 92% water. 92%!!! I’m curious if the state of California is aware of this fact. I very briefly thought about proposing dropping watermelons from the sky to help the drought, but quickly realized how very dangerous that could be. Sure, the lawns would look better but so many good folks would get concussions. 😉
Here’s to a wonderful summer filled with love, laughter and lots of yummy fruit. Below some amazing Watermelon Recipes. Enjoy!
