The boys have really been in to coloring lately. I’m still trying to figure out how to get Rhett to stop eating crayons (this is a normal toddler thing, right?!?) and Nash from breaking them (also normal, right?!?). Either way, coloring is a daily occurrence in our household and I feel like I should have stock in Crayola Crayons right now.
Well you guys know I love my gadgets and anything that can make this mom’s life easier, I’m all for, so when Best Buy reached out to see if I wanted to try out Wacom Intuos Bluetooth Creative Pen Tablet, I was all in! See first I just thought I would use the pen as a cool way for the boys to color, but this thing does SO MUCH more!!
First, setup was super simple. Simply connect the pen tablet to your Mac or PC via USB, download and install the driver, complete the easy registration and you’re good to go. It comes with tons of online tutorials and and free downloadable software (Corel Painter Essentials 6, Corel Aftershot 3 and CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO.)
I love is that is has a super slim and compact design (but still very durable) so I can throw it in my backpack with my computer no problem for traveling. I envision this as a perfect go-to distraction on the plane for the boys on an upcoming trip! The built-in pen tray holds your pen in place, (also great for airplanes) while the four ExpressKeys™ allow you to work quickly and easily. It also connects via Bluetooth which means you can connect to your PC or Mac at the click of a button. (I love easy!) For those of you that have never used a pen tablet before, the pen basically becomes your most, so you can click and move things around just as you would a mouse.
So after getting everything set up, I opened up Corel Painter Essentials and decided I would try to create a masterpiece first. Clearly I’m no Picasso, but the good news is, Nash didn’t care. I was able to print out my creation, yes a sun and tree, original, I know, and Nash had fun coloring the picture I drew.

I will say that the pen felt great in my hand and it was super easy to use. It has a pressure-sensitive pen (battery-free), so you can create thicker or thinner lines simply by pushing harder on the pen.
Next it was Nash’s turn to try it out and I have to say, if a 3 year old can figure it out, any of you reading this post surely can. I helped him select some different brushes and colors and he absolutely loved it! I love, that no-one broke (or ate) any crayons and I was able to print or save the image on my computer. Nash had so much fun, I actually had to tell him the battery died (it didn’t) so I could get him to take his nap.
Another mom hack here…when all else fails, say the battery died…works on all electronics!
For this being my first time using a bluetooth pen tablet, I have to say I’m a fan! I’m super excited to see all the other things I can do with it. I read it’s great for editing pictures so I’m going to try that next! If you want to get more info or pick one of these bad boys up for yourself, click here or head over to your local Best Buy store today! They retail for $199.99 but are on sale for $169.99!
