Our household is known for our steak nights. I am not going to lie – I can season one like no one else and my husband’s steaks are cooked perfectly – they are next to none. When we have guests over they know what to expect and we deliver. With those steaks must come the sides, and that is where I come in. One at a time I will show you our go-to steak night specials starting with the “House Salad” – It’s nothing fancy, trust me.
My salad staples are to include greens, as many colorful veggies as I have, something crunchy like nuts, something sweet like dried fruit, a healthy fat like avocado or oil and something salty like cheese.
I’ve included my usual suspects below but you can add whatever you want or have on hand. I also use this handheld mandolin to slice all the veggies quickly!
Ingredients:
- Box of spinach or wild greens (or a mix)
- 3 carrots thinly sliced
- 3 Persian cucumbers thinly sliced (or regular cucumber into halves)
- red cabbage thinly sliced
- 1/2-whole avocado cubed
- 1/3 cup slivered almonds
- 1/3 cup raisins (or dried cranberries)
- Feta (But really use any cheese you enjoy)
Directions:
Start from the greens and just layer it into a bowl to create a beautiful salad. I don’t toss it in dressing but prefer to leave it on the table with several dressing options so everyone can pick their own and VOILA!
This is SO SIMPLE but the perfect combination for a fan favorite salad!
