2 years ago when we moved into our new home, we installed the Nest thermostat. If you haven’t tried one, I highly suggest it! The Nest Learning Thermostat automatically adapts as your life and the seasons change. In as little as one week, it will take notice of what settings you chose and program itself.
It has an app that allows you to control the temperature in your home from a mobile device or tablet. I have to say this is probably my favorite feature because our thermostat is on the other side of the house and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in bed at night and used the app to change the temperature from my phone.
It also has an amazing energy saving feature which shows you how much energy you use every day in Energy History and every month in your Home Report. So you can see when you use more energy, like on weekends or Monday nights, and how to use less. It also has sensors that can detect when you have left the home and it can automatically adjust to an Eco Temperature to help you save money while you are gone. I also should note that it was super simple to install. I actually did it myself, which I am quite proud of. You just take off your old thermostat, connect the correct wires and voila, you can be up and running in no time! There’s also some quick tutorials online that help you decipher which wires to connect where.
So needless to say, I love our Nest, and the convenience it has provided to our home. I have to be honest, I didn’t think it could get any more convenient, but now it has. Enter, Google Home!
We got a Google Home about a month ago. You may or may not have seen the cute Video of Nash telling it to play his favorite dance songs yelling “Hey Google” around our house. Adorable! Now I’m still learning all it can do, but one of my favorite features, besides playing music, is its ability to control our Nest using Voice commands. That’s right, I no longer have to walk to my thermostat or open the app on my phone, I simply can just say, “Hey Google…turn up the temperature to 72 degrees” and it does it. It’s pretty incredible. I’ve also read that you can have multiple Google Home devices around your house and they can all work together. So if we had one in our bedroom (which we are planning on setting up) I can change the temperature while laying in bed by just saying it out loud!

Be sure to get the Phillips Hue Lighting system which will also work with Google Home which allows you to Dim the lights and change the color of your with your voice. Google Chromecast also allows you to play videos on your TV using voice commands with Google Home. I have to say this thing does it all…or it seems to at least.
