STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and STEM products encourage kids to develop core skills in these areas. Best Buy carries products from basic learning games to advanced toys designed to stimulate a child’s mind in the STEM areas, helping to develop logic and problem-solving skills.
The elementary school Nash is zoned for is a STEM School so I was super excited that Best Buy sent us a bunch of their new STEM toys to try out. While Nash is a little young for some of the toys, it was a lot of fun to introduce them to him and start the learning process. I think Nash’s favorite toy we got to try out was the robot DASH.

Dash & Dot are real robots that teach your kids to code while they play. Using their free apps and a compatible tablet or smartphone, kids learn to code while they make Dash sing, dance and navigate all around the house. Sensors on the robot mean they react to the environment around them, including your kids. Dash and Dot present your kids with hundreds of projects, challenges, and puzzles as well as endless possibilities for freeform play.
Nash started out with a simple task of teaching Dash to say Hi…watch Nash’s reaction here! He then moved on to teaching him to move forward, spin in circles, and say fun phrases. Here’s Nash getting him to blow a kiss! He really had a great time with Dash, who is now his favorite toy and sleeping in his room, right next to his bed as I type this post.
Dash won Good Housekeeping’s Toy of the Year award and was Melinda & Bill Gates’ favorite STEM gift for kids. Not bad for a fun robot. If you are interested in getting a Dash for your little one, Best Buy has it available here!
