Osmo Genius Kit, Changing the way your Child Plays

By  |  0 Comments

Nash and I recently got the opportunity to play with the new Osmo Genius Kit and we loved it!   The Genius Kit is an Award-winning hands-on game system that fosters creativity & problem-solving skills.  It comes with 5 downloadable apps Words, Tangram, Newton, Masterpiece, and Numbers so your child can enjoy interactive play that encourages creative thinking and social interaction.  My favorite thing about Osmo is it still incorporates the iPad but gets kids to be more hands on and be creative with their hands.  Put your iPad in the Osmo base with the red reflector over the camera – and now it can see what’s in front of it.  The suggested age group is ages 4-12 but it really can work for all ages and although Nash is almost 3 he had a blast playing the games with me!

Our favorite app was the Tangram App which has the child arrange wooden puzzle pieces to match on-screen shapes.  The game Tangram has been around for almost a thousand years, but Osmo reinvents this classic using a fully interactive video experience. With visual and audio feedback, multiple levels of difficulty, achievements, you get to make animals, objects, humans and more. You can play with a friend or challenge yourself to increasingly more difficult levels as your handiwork lights up with each victory.  I loved this one because it had a younger age group setting for Nash so he could successfully figure out some of the patterns.  I loved seeing him interacting with the shapes and colors and the patterns really got him thinking.  Watch our video playing the game Here!

They also have a fun game called Coding Jam which gets kids to compose their own Music by arranging Osmo’s Coding Blocks into patterns and sequences.   Kids get to know coding’s creative side while developing an ear for rhythm, melody, and harmony.  Once they’ve composed a jam, kids can safely share it with friends, family and the jam community. I can’t wait to try this out once Nash gets a little older.  Note, the Coding Jam accessories are sold separately than the Genius Kit.
